The 1006 Navy Chair (1944) 78 years old
This chair was designed for U.S. submarines. in 1940 the U.S. Government assigned a company (Emeco) to produce chairs that were able to withstand water, salt corrosion, and abuse by sailors, it also had to be lightweight and portable. It is still being produced today and has become an American classic.

The Strat (solid body electric guitar) (1952 ) 70 Years old
The Fender Stratocaster was first designed in 1952 and launched in 1954. It was a collaborative effort between Leo Fender, Bill Carson, George Fullerton and Freddie Tavares. The Stratocaster (aka the Strat) was the first double cutaway electric guitar; and it has become the most popular and copied electric guitar of all time.

The Barcelona Chair (1929) 93 years old
Considered the the most beautiful chair in history. It was first shown in 1929 at the second World’s Fair in Barcelona Spain. This chair, designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, an architect, designer and director of the Bauhaus was the perfect representation of the Bauhaus movement and met both criteria – that it be aesthetically pleasing as well as functionally useful. Mies also came up with the popular design adage “Less is More.”

The Volkswagen (VW) Beetle (1937) 85 years old
On May 28, 1937, the German government – formed a state-owned automobile company, known as Gesellschaft zur Vorbereitung des Deutschen Volkswagens mbH. Soon thereafter it was  renamed as Volkswagenwerk, (“The People’s Car Company.” The goal was to develop an affordable mass produced car which would sell for $140 (USD). Ferdinand Porsche was called in to design it and oversee the production. The VW Beetle was first displayed at the Berlin Motor Show in 1939. After WWII production was again resumed in 1969.
